FLASH SSDs require no battery to maintain their contents, however although stored data can be selectively deleted the space can only be reclaimed by a full re-format of. Flash SSDs are ideal for static data.
RAM SSDs use a lithium battery to maintain contents. Unlike FLASH SSDs contents can be overwritten - much like a computer hard disk. RAM SSDs are ideally suited to data which is frequently changed
